Louisiana State Militia
10th Brigade

The state militia participates in Weapons Demonstration Day at the Port Hudson State Historic Site on the first Sunday of every month unless there is another event scheduled for this day. The demonstrations begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Members assist site personnel with the demonstration of weapons including pistols, rifles, rifle muskets, shotguns and end with the firing of a reproduction 6-pound artillery piece and an original 42-pound siege gun. Members are asked to arrive at Port Hudson around 10:30 a.m. on these Sundays so that the unit can drill and discuss upcoming events. We also portray an 1860's U.S. Marine Corps detachment at the Battle of Hickory Creek in Deridder and also in the parade and burial reenactment for The Day the War Stopped in St. Francisville, La. No one in the unit is required to obtain a marine uniform if he does not want to (any type of Union uniform will work), nor does he have to participate in either of these two events. Although the state militia is an infantry unit , we are awaiting an artillery piece, and will form an artillery section within the unit. We are actively looking for artillery men who would be interested in serving "on the gun." 3/30/2008 - Siege of Port Hudson
